Texas is the place to be.

If you are making little money, are dissatisfied with the climate in your state, and are sick of the small-minded mentality of people around you, come down to Texas. This state is the second most populous because Texans make things happen. It does not matter about the Bushes or oil companies. There are many other profitable and growing companies down here.

Leave your pathetic little state and come to where the big dogs roam!!!

The list basically reflects the fact that we are wisely shifting from imported oil to domestic natural gas as the fuel of choice in America. It’s wise because (1) we just found a truly massive supply called the Barnett Shale west of Fort Worth, which is basically where all those companies are active, (2) we will cut the trade deficit by shifting to gas, (3) gas produces less CO2 and vastly fewer carcinogens and particles per BTU, (4) gas is cheaper per BTU, (5) gas requires little to no refining, again reducing pollution and infrastructure costs, (6) shifting to gas very likely defunds radical Islamic terrorists. The list goes on: it’s suitable for blending with renewable sources, we have systems taking it all the way to people’s houses already in place in much of the country, the final product is stored more easily than gasoline, etc. It has been neglected because the left sees it as just another fossil fuel and the Big Oil Republicans are making too much money off their existing oil reserves and refineries (see item 5 above). It would be nice if corn-based ethanol solved the problem, but it can’t yet. Corn ethanol production consumes as much energy as it produces while pushing up the price for pretty much all foods.

As a native Texan (who voted against Bush twice for president and once for governor), I was disappointed to see so few of our non-traditional energy based companies on there. Most people don’t know that Texas leads the nation in alternative energy production (mostly wind) as a result of a tax incentive program set up in the 90’s by our then Democratic legislature (OK–Bush was governor at the time). They have also forgotten that it was TI, not Intel or IBM, that received the first patent for a computer chip. The richest Texans (Michael Dell, Ross Perot, even Mark Cuban) are from the information industry, not the oil business. Conspiracy theorists never take a day off. Duh, the fastest growing companies are going to be related to energy with the increase of oil prices, and the Texas economy has been tied to oil & gas for 100 years. Does anyone remember the 80s when the Texas oil & gas industry went bellyup? (And that was with Republicans in office including Bush Sr.) It also might have to do with the fact that Texas is the 2nd largest population state in the Union and should have a large market share of industry, and are business-friendly with tax incentives and lower cost of living. “You may all go to hell, and I will go to Texas.”–Davy Crockett

Before I plunk my $$ down, and yes, I’ve been watching Grey Wolf and the copper boys, I want to see what those Fools over at the Motley boards have to say. Get some “real” analysis before I blindly commit based on mere numbers. . . you know, get some real details about history. . . . how the company got it’s start how why it’s falterd in the past, how it’s reovered, what are the near future darts/missles it’ll have to evade. I can see where body armor might have been explosive investing four years ago, but the Iraq war is going to wind down soon and where will Ceradyne be then?? Bye now . . To all the “geniuses” that seem to attribute everything to Bush or Rove, just shutup. Texas has one of the most favorable tax climates in the US (for citizens and businesses). Also, the cost of living here is incredibly cheap compared to both coasts.

I am truly incredulous. 34 out of 100 top growing firms in Texas, 17 oout of 100 in Houston, which is Bush’s home town!

All in energy…

You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see that while the average American is suffering through higher prices at the pump all of W’s friends who will be joining him at the retirement home are making millions, if not billions.

I find it amazing that Don from Iowa infers that George W Bush drove up fuel prices to help his Texas buddies. Fuel prices are high because guys like Don (and me) drive gas guzzling trucks and cars and the supply of oil is tight. Every US citizen needs to do a little homework on basic economics and they will understand the oil markets a little better. Don from Iowa should understand that corn prices have gone up sharply in the last year or two – because demand exceeds supply – no different than in the oil business. I’m tired of people bashing Bush, I do not agree with everything he (or other presidents) has done, however if you gave me a chance to vote today between Bush and Gore, or Bush and Kerry, or Bush and Hillary – I would vote for Bush again.

I find it very alarming that so many fossil-fuel-based energy companies expierenced such strong growth. I am typically not a cynical person, but I have to wonder if so many Texas companies would appear in this list if our current President were not from that state.

I have serious doubt about the quality of Coginizant employees. I have worked with Coginizant staff at one of fortune companies. This is like any other Indian IT firm, will try to get the contract based on cheaper rate. I doubt their growth is sustainable. In the end, Quality which matters the most!
