Jackie and DeeDee: Amen! I’m a nurse too and looking for a company, any company that has a benefit for Nurses. Decent Health Insurance and sick days for our battered bodies would be great wouldn’t it! Not to mention some free family time in Bahamas. Nursing shortage? What Nursing shortage? I don’t notice any hospitals on the list, but one 2,000 miles from where I live.

I’m a nurse WISHING hospitals/employers would take into account our experience and hard work and realize that we are also human. We get sick, have families and struggle to make ends meet. It would be nice to work for a company that appreciates these things.

It is interesting to note, that while the majority of companies, such as Chase, frown upon telecommuting, they are happy to outsource every possible American job to places such as India, where there is no guarantee of security of the data, and where they have no control over the quality of the outsourced employees or the quality of that work.

Sure wish nurses had the benefits of the companies listed.
BAd benefits, hard work, earm hours per month for vacation which is nil and no real big benefit to speak of. Big deal.
Insurance has gone up but not our wages.

Actually Betsy, for the past three years I have been working out of my house for a Fortune 500 company that I have worked for for over seven years. In that time, I have been promoted three times and increased my salary by more than $30k to where I now make over $100k a year. I only go into an office if I go to a meeting on the road. Urban Legend? Then I’m Bigfoot.

Work from home is an urban and suburban legend. Companies want to see you and have somebody (usually a female “office manager” or “administrator”) supervise you punching in and out. Most Americans who desire to telecommute do not have the types of jobs which allow them to do so. Data entry, billing and collections departments might approve some work from home options, however, accessing confidential information could be challenging. If you want to work from home, you will probably have to work for yourself selling something or providing a much needed service to someone. Good luck~

Take a look at Boeing. They were telecommuting long before it became fashionable for CNN/Fortuneto pick up on it. Benefits? Better than any other company I’ve worked for. Work-Life Balance? I’ve also worked for Edward Jones, and the former A.G. Edwards where “work-life balance” is nothing more than a phrase. Given my druthers, Boeing is the place to work.

Odd that it’s never in our top 100, they offer many more reasons to work for them than any other company you list.

It’s no wonder the list doesn’t have a single mortgage company. This is a list a company like Countrywide never made. Looks like you missed the NUMBER TWO: Quicken Loans . That is a mortgage company. Sure, it's the ONLY mortgage company to make the list, but a mortgage company none the less. How the heck did you miss the number two company? Wow.

I work for Coventry First (located right outside of Philadelphia) and after reading the benefits other companies offered, I have to say our’s are the best. We have a suite at all 3 of the sporting venues down in Philadelphia (Catch the Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, Sixers, concerts, shows, etc.) All tickets are free of charge to us employees. We can get passes to the Zoo for us and our families. Aside from that, we are treated to a nice vacation in the Bahamas every year. Again, free of charge. Haven’t heard of a company that comes close to that yet.
