I think it's real interesting that these companies are admired for everything but their contribution to education - without which they would not exist.

Schools in America are heavily ignored. Unless you through out and IV league school for the days ego boost, of course.

The only thing that is well known about our schools and our education system is that it sucks.

Oh yeah, we have the IV league universities.... don't forget.

It's no secret that a large number of these companies employ an even larger number of people from other countries, WHERE EDUCATION IS FIRST!!! YES, education comes even before the iPhone beleieve it or not. Shocking, I know.

It's not just cheap labor like these companies claim. They also know that people are coming to America, at times with far less convieniences, but with far more education!

Americas are sleeping at front doors of retail stores and breaking down their doors to they can be the first to get the Talking/Singing ELMO for Christmas, or the iphone. People in other countries are stacked up against the walls, standing on each others shoulders in crowded classrooms with 4 chairs and a half a desk, breaking fire codes, just so they can DOWNLOAD and UPLOAD as much education and information as they can!!!

Meanwhile, back in Good ol' America, people are flipping u-turns on the freeway to run back home to get their iphone that they forgot because they were on another call on their blackberry, rushing out of their $900,000 2 bdrm house in order to squeeze in their Starbucks run before work.

Only in America!!! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

I think what would be even more admirable is if these companies and others, supported the schools in their areas. Sponsor a school, whether it be an elementary, junior high, high school, or college, in the same way that you support Tiger Woods, or a Tennis tournament, the newby Michael Phelps even.

I know, the thought of giving that much time, money, and energy to kids and their education gives some people hives, but like the future of America without education,... it'll go away!!!

All of you Marketing geniuses of the world... CREATE a way for you and your company or corporation to be ACTIVE educators.

It needs to be more than just "the thing to say", or "the thing to do". Education can no longer be a charity case for America's write off's, or just all together ignored.

It needs to be a way of life!!!

PLEASE!!!
Thank you!!!
God Bless American Minds!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems Brendan is a bit struggled. All know we got no alternative to Microsoft, When the customer base is too high its quite obvious that number of errors reported shall be high. No need to bother about it.. :) Microsoft is the best.

why is apple ranked number one overall but second in the computer industry. and take microsoft out, everyone knows they pale in comparison to apple, and that the only reason they have market share is because businesses and some consumers are locked in and it would take too many resources to make the mac switch

I think the survey did not include any participation from India. I don't really understand how there can be no admired cos. in India. There is the TATA group which has recently acquired JAGUAR, LAND ROVER brands from FORD. There is INFOSYS a top class IT Services company and there are a lot more of these companies which are admired by a Billion human beings. I think CNN should widen the survey and make it more GLOBAL centric and not US centric.

Apple should be all of the top 20. It has consistently innovated technical and aesthetically beautiful appliances over its past 20+ years. It is a software company whose elegant solutions are intuitively crafted to appeal to the broadest spectrum of the American and now global public. Who wouldn't want to own at least one of Apple's products?

This list of most admired companies is laughable. Come on, Berkshire Hathaway, P&G, J&J, Microsoft, and WALMART?!?! Sure looks like they just paid to get on the list. Absolutely laughable and shows how out of touch Fortune really is. I wonder how much the fee was…

How did Wal-Mart make it. They still don't treat their customers well and I certianly wouldn't want to work for or with them. Cheap is not a solution if it compromises ethics and safety.

Wonder why they were rated as better in the top 50 but #2 delivery company?

What about John Deere? Content employees with excellent benefits and a worldwide Ag and Forestry equipment leader (2nd in construction behind CAT). Oh, and let's not forget the most important thing: 4+ straight years of stock value increase! Their stock value nearly doubled last year!

For example: where is Nokia, Mercedes (Daimler-Benz), HSBC, ING, SHELL etc etc etc
