100 Best Companies to Work For: Most Hiring

By Gabrielle S. (CNNMoney)

What do you think of the top employers that are hiring most? Would you want to work for one of them? Is your company hiring? Are you looking for a new job? Tell us what you think.

Edward Jones contacted me over a year ago about interviewing for their company. There was a 12+ page application, phone interviews, etc. before being sent to a local branch office. The interview itself consisted of pages of pre-determined questions which neither manager veered from. Having been through it once, I knew what to expect the 2nd time and tried to explain that the strict format did not apply to me – based primarily on how you work with teams at your current job – owned/ran a business of my own for years – could we please discuss their needs and how I could help him and their company with my skills and experience? Also took a math test for this process.
I know I am more than capable of doing the job, looked forward to the opportunity, and was personable, etc.
After the 2nd interview, I contacted the recruiter to take my name off the list if they were so inflexible about the interview technique itself.

I’ve just graduated with a degree in accounting, and I am really quite excited about putting my knowledge that I’ve learned in school to good use for some company. Yes, I would love to work in the Finance department for any of these top growing employers.

These are mostly service companies. Were in such bad shape in this economy because the US is becoming a nation of service providers while the real economic engine, manufacturing, is being shipped overseas. Great to see were pulling ourselves out of the mess were in.

Accenture has been laying off American citizens after making them train non-Americans to take their jobs. Oh yes, receiving severance is also dependent on training their replacements.

How does Edward Jones get a top ranking? I think they are poor when serving clients. Their MMA stinks. Their rates are always among the lowest. Also their stock picks, let’s not go there! The only good thing they really offer is munis.

When a company is hiring when they just announced layoffs I would be hesitant about working for them. I don’t believe financial companies are seriously looking….in this economy, that just doesn’t make sense. I would say most of the companies list openings that have been eliminated in order to give the impression ‘all is well’.

Who would not want to work for one of these growing companies? I know I would but here is the issue at hand…Should I put myself out there and take a chance that my place of employment will find out. True story I was working with a headhunter and someone else in the same office called and spoke to my Director about filling my job after I left, I had not even brought this up in a discussion with him yet of my intentions…WOW!!! So, how professional was that on the Executive Recruiting Firm? I am a Financial Controller, sit on the Board of Directors as the Tresurer and am currently enrolled in a Executive MBA Program – International Studies, so I am comfortable in my job duies and responsibilies. Or should I take the chance for something new and exciting that will push me to achieve great things? I have a desire to lead and do what it takes to get the job done by example and take on other chanelleges head on…I believe we all have it in us to be great!!!

As someone who was let go (as a contractor) and who watched a whole bunch of good people get laid off at Ernst & Young, LLP in Cleveland last month, I wonder what’s going on with the hirings! Is it a publicity stunt? We were told Advisory was down 30%, so those jobs in particular seem suspect.

I have been trying since graduation (June 08) to work for KPMG. I have sent resumes on their website and through employment agencies. I do not htink they are serious about hiring
